About Yagnesh Dave

Groomed as Network engineer earlier in my career, in 2007, while working on a project with British Telecom, I had my firsthand experience with the Perl script. I was amazed to see how a small automation of running the pings to various IPs was quick, fast and time saving. That was my steppingstone into Network Automation and System`s engineering. After the above experience I have never looked back.The spark that was ignited in 2007 got me to look at solving network issues through the lens of automation. In this journey of solving the problems I learned Python and frontend development using PHP, Angular.JS, Node.JS, etc. Frontend development was natural progression to provide data in a way that management team could relate with the business impact it created.I lead a team of six passionate engineers, with whom I co-worked to write new automation tools and design systems that can scale. As a tech lead/Manager, I was excited as I could see both the sides of the world – the passion of tech engineers and insight and vision of the leadership team. I got the opportunity to blend the things together to create huge business impact along with the team. Some of the achievements include IP Looking glass, deploying DNS servers globally, Network Health monitoring and alerting system, and designing Bigdata system for traffic analytics.The journey continued with me developing a service in C# that automates the process to decommissioning network gears such that there is no traffic disruption or customer impact. While developing the service, I mentored new bees to learn network technologies and dev work. I was so pleased when these engineers I trained presented the work with a lot of technical depth and confidence. I yearn to learn more and learn in different areas. I am thankful for all the experiences and learnings I have acquired over the years that helped me sit on the boundary of Networking, Software development, System designing and a bit of Management.

   Any network has three phases of operation - Build, Deploy/Maintain & Decommission. This is driven by the need to expand the network or upgrade to more scalable hardware & software. To match the scale of network growth with minimum network/business impact, you need very smart tools/services/systems. In my current role, I- Develop & design software services for network automation - Mentor & lead the team of software developers- Participate in design and development of new tools/servicesI developed Decommission service which has decommissioned thruhsands of network devices in Azure datacenters safely without causing network outage.Led the team to develop script to predict changes in the network when isolating links or devices in the network. This has immensely helped with reducing impact on the customers in critical situations where the datacenter is or will run hot.Collaborating with cross-functional teams for optimizing the optical maintenance activities between the datacenter and regional endpoints to streamline it by striking a balance between customer impact and network urgency.
