ABOUT XIMENA ANCO
First-Class Zoology graduate (3rd in cohort) with broad experience across ecological research, laboratory science, conservation practice, and public engagement. I am currently working as a Research Technician in the Evolution, Ecology and Behaviour Department at the University of Liverpool, supporting evolutionary genetics research.Originally from Peru, my background as someone from the Global South has strongly shaped my interest in biodiversity conservation, environmental equity, and inclusive approaches to environmental decision-making. I am particularly motivated by work that recognises the value of local knowledge, lived experience, and community engagement alongside scientific evidence.I have hands-on experience in ecological fieldwork and monitoring, including bat surveys, marine megafauna surveys, great crested newt surveys, and mammal research, as well as strong skills in data analysis (RStudio, QGIS) and scientific communication. I have worked with organisations such as the RSPB, Wildlife Trusts, Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust, and university research groups through research, placement, and volunteer roles.Alongside technical experience, I am actively involved in youth leadership and governance within the conservation sector. I currently serve as a Youth Board Member at Chester Zoo and as Youth Panel Member at Field Studies Council, contributing to strategic discussions on conservation, education, and equity. I have provided youth input to local authority climate policy, with recommendations incorporated into a Council Climate Emergency Response Plan.I also have a strong background in public engagement and science communication, having delivered outreach activities for diverse audiences, contributed to institutional media content, and supported community-led climate and nature events.I am seeking early-career opportunities in conservation science, environmental research, or education where I can apply my technical skills, collaborative approach, and commitment to inclusive, impactful conservation.
