About Xiaobo Tan

Dr. Tan leads the Smart Microsystems Lab at Michigan State University with vibrant activities in underwater robotics, soft robotics, control systems, and smart materials. In particular, his group develops autonomous fish-like robots and uses them for various underwater sensing applications, such as monitoring harmful algal blooms and tracking the movement of live fish. His group has been supported by National Science Foundation, Office of Naval Research, United States Geological Survey, Great Lakes Fishery Commission, Toyota, MSU Foundation, among others.
