About Xiao Hu
Specializing in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Xiao worked on powertrain CFD projects for the first 9 years of his career. During the time, he worked closely with Ford, GM, Chrysler, Cummins, CAT and developed methodologies for quite a few applications including the diesel engine simulation strategy, gerotor and vane pump moving mesh strategy, which are still used today by Fluent users. Other applications Xiao worked on include engine cooling systems, intake/exhaust systems, engine combustion.Xiao has since moved onto electric powertrain applications. He developed the Newman electrochemistry model inside ANSYS Simplorer. Xiao has successfully developed coupling between computational electromagnetics tool, Maxwell, and Fluent for electric machine thermal. Xiao also worked quite extensively on Reduced Order Model (ROM) for battery and power electronics thermal management, which has been used successfully by companies like GM and Lear.Xiao has also worked on induction heating applications for companies like Pentair. Xiao has also developed a methodology in collaboration with Schneider to couple CFD and Maxwell for breaker arc transient simulation.A noted expert in his field, Xiao has a Ph.D. in CFD from Purdue University. Xiao has been regularly publishing in several technical journals, trade magazines, and conferences. Xiao is an eloquent speaker and has made presentations at various technical conferences and professional meetings. Recently SAE has given him the best oral presentation of the session in 2006.
