ABOUT X. BLAKE SPARROW

X. Blake Sparrow is the Senior Assistant General Counsel at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. In this capacity, he provides confidential legal, policy, and business advice in a myriad of areas: artificial intelligence; privacy; data governance; contracts and agreements; security; operations; and international, federal, state, and local statutory interpretation.He spent eight years at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, where he worked on legal issues related to privacy, data rights, data governance, cybersecurity, and intellectual property. He completed a detail to the Bureau\'s Office of Consumer Response, providing the Office assistance with specialized legal and policy issues related to the processing of over monthly complaints regarding consumer financial products and services.Prior to joining the Museum and the federal government, Blake held a variety of positions: he was an associate at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP, where he specialized in antitrust and internal investigations matters; he served as a law clerk to the Honorable Gerald Bruce Lee of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia; and he taught third grade and coordinated the community service program at the Collegiate School in New York. Blake is active in his community, currently serving as a member of the St. Patrick\'s Episcopal Day School\'s Annual Giving Leadership Council, assisting with STP\'s top philanthropic priority; a Tree Commissioner for the City of Takoma Park, helping oversee the Urban Forest and hearing tree permit appeals; and as Secretary for JusticeAccess, a nonprofit helping those in need of legal services.Blake holds an A.B. cum laude from Amherst College and a J.D. cum laude from the Howard University School of Law, where he served as editor-in-chief of the Howard Law Journal. Blake lives in Washington with his wife, Lisa, and three children, Hank, Sam, and Cleoria.
