About Xavier Soler
I am a physician-scientist/medical expert and team leader with an entrepreneurial mindset, a result-driven leadership style, and a strong corporative and team-oriented strategy to deliver scientific and patient-oriented objectives. On my role at Pfizer, I am responsible for coordinating and leading end-to-end clinical studies for novel biologic and small molecule therapies. This includes trial design and full implementation of clinical studies. As a key collaborator with the Early Clinical Development (ECD) team, I contribute to the development of clinical endpoints, oversee patient safety, lead data review activities, and provide strategic leadership across the clinical function. In addition, I actively participate in the strategic assessment of the Immunology & Inflammation (I&I) Research Unit portfolio and support Business Development initiatives through clinical insight and evaluation. With a strong background and formal training in chronic lung diseases such as COPD (including alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency) and severe asthma, I have also vast experience in other lung disorders and programs such as chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension, tobacco cessation, pulmonary rehabilitation, imaging, or lung cancer. At UC San Diego Health (UCSD) I have directed the airway research and clinical trials center (CTC), with administrative and hands-on responsibilities conducting clinical trials from 20••••18. My flexibility and ability to build programs have made me a versatile yet knowledgeable individual in medical and corporate environments. As UCSD faculty, I had pursued investigative interests in sleep-related disorders and pulmonary rehabilitation. Also on physical activity and sleep monitors. I have been involved in promoting health-related research among diverse ethnic groups, or in the Medicare-NIH-funded LOTT (Long-term Oxygen Therapy Trial) study. I am committed to mentor students, fellows, and junior faculty in clinical research and patient and the community. I have experience working with industry involving clinical trials in COPD, asthma, oxygen delivery, sleep, and activity measurements. I maintain a UC San Diego affiliation as an associate professor of medicine teaching at the School of Medicine and mentoring young researchers.I hold a formal business administration background and 25+ years of business management. I have served pro-bono as an advisory board member and consultant for companies as well as non-profit organizations (underserved areas in Senegal, Africa).
