I help organisations, networks and people navigate the complexities of the EU Research and Innovation funding landscape - connecting high-level institutional goals with the strategy and operation needed to deliver.I am the founder of Novation Europe. Grounded in direct organisational and practitioner experience, Novation Europe brings you a complete ecosystem of expertise, know-how, and connections covering the entire EU R&I lifecycle - from strategic positioning to bidding, project, and portfolio delivery. Our people-centric approach helps you not only grow your portfolio of grants and projects, but also build lasting mindsets, empower individuals and teams, and strengthen internal capability, not dependency.Prior to Novation, I served as Assistant Director (Research Strategy and Services) at the University of Birmingham, responsible for the strategic and operational delivery of the University’s European and international research portfolio. I established and led teams that consistently achieved top-tier performance in the EU framework programmes including Horizon Europe, set up the University’s first Brussels office, and, more broadly in my senior leadership roles, drove the integration of research support services to create more efficient, end-to-end processes for academics, particularly within the SHAPE disciplines.My work has always extended beyond a single institution. I have chaired the Universitas 21 Research Collaboration Group, was a board member of the UK Research Office (UKRI Europe Office), been active within Midlands and UK funding networks, advised UK authorities on the interplay between UK and EU R&I, and built strategic partnerships with European organisations, including the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre.
