ABOUT WYNETTE YAO
Wynette Yao is an award-winning filmmaker who has produced, directed and written films on subjects as wide-ranging as Egypt, tornadoes, bees and bog mummies. She relishes image-making and storytelling that brings alive the human experience behind history, science, and modern life. In 1918, Yao joined FAMM Foundation, a non-profit that advocates for criminal justice reform. She has been grateful to make short videos, spots and long-form documentaries aimed at fighting for a more fair and effective justice system, including the award-winning “Half of Us,” “Boots on the Ground,” and “Veda Ajamu: Warrior for Justice.” Yao has embraced digital platforms. She has shot & edited numerous web pieces, such as \"Play Smart, Your Brain Matters\"(National Children\'s Medical) and \"My Water, Your Water,\" which won a Communicator Award for Online Education. Her other multimedia work includes a stint at Conservation International, where she edited, wrote and posted content on issues like climate change, plastic pollution, and the value of the ocean. With over two decades of experience, Yao knows the production process inside-out. She enjoys developing concepts, scripting, scheduling, interviewing, recording, and editing, and has a passion for connecting with the audience. Her expertise and comfort level help her to work efficiently, economically and collaboratively. Yao believes that combining imagery and sound to move people can be a powerful tool for social change.
