ABOUT JIAYUE CECILIA WU
Dr. Jiayue \"Cecilia\" Wu is a Tenure-track Assistant Professor at the College of Arts and Media at the University of Colorado Denver, where she teaches and conducts research in audio engineering and computer music. She is the head of the Master of Science in Recording Arts (MSRA) Graduate Program. She holds a Ph.D. in Media Arts and Technology from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and an MA in Music, Science and Technology from Stanford University. She has over 24 years of diverse experience in the media arts and tech industry, working for companies such as Universal Music Group, EMI Records, Taihe Media, and Shazam Entertainment.In 2021, her first book, Sound from Within: Phenomenology and Practice, was published by Springer Nature Press. She has also authored 27 peer-reviewed research papers and three book chapters in the male-dominated audio engineering and computer music fields. Dr. Wu\'s production portfolio includes 100+ award-winning multimedia compositions and interactive installations featured at esteemed venues and festivals worldwide, including the National Museum of China, Denver Art Museum, into. Linux Audio Conference, ICMC, NIME, SEAMUS, ISEA, Berlin International Art Film Festival, London International Animation Festival, etc.Dr. Wu is an advocate for equity and inclusion in the STEAM community. She is the first Asian/Asian-American woman audio engineer to take the leadership position at the Audio Engineering Society (AES) in history, serving as 1 of the 6 Board of Governors and Chair of the AES-DEI Committee. She has initiated and implemented many programs and initiatives at AES, such as the Mentorship Program, the DEI webpage, the membership data survey, and the inaugural AES Conference on Breaking Barriers in Audio. She is also a Board Director-at-large at the International Computer Music Association (ICMA/ICMC) and the former Editor-in-Chief of the Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States (SEAMUS), where she promotes the development and dissemination of computer music research and practice.
