About Wutt Hmone K.
Wutt is a biomedical engineering PhD candidate in the neural engineering track at the University of Michigan, specializing in spinal cord stimulation (SCS) for the treatment of chronic pain. She has experience leading an NIH-funded exploratory clinical trial, which involved performing quantitative sensory testing, patient recruitment, obtaining informed consent, managing clinical data, and conducting statistical analysis. She also uses patient imaging data to create personalized computational models that simulate neural activation, aiming to improve our understanding of SCS therapies, improve outcomes, and personalize chronic pain treatments. Passionate about entrepreneurship, Wutt is dedicated to translating innovative neuromodulation therapies into safe and effective healthcare solutions through personalized, data-driven approaches.Outside of the lab, Wutt enjoys rock climbing, playing badminton, teaching kids and adults, and playing with her dog (Milo) and cat (Lucky).Specialities:1) Leading and conducting exploratory clinical trials: patient recruitment (Michart, DataDirect), informed consent, safety monitoring, continuous review, data collection (administering quantitative sensory testing and patient-reported outcomes), large clinical data management, and data analysis (Matlab, R)2) Patient-specific computational modeling of spinal cord electrical stimulation to understand the mechanisms of SCS using segmentation tools (Materialize: Mimics, 3matic) in MRI and CT images, NEURON, Matlab, Python, and FEM tools (COMSOL).3) Using machine learning techniques on DTI images to improve deep brain stimulation targeting for movement disordersOral presentations: NANS’24 (oral abstract awardee), NYCN’24, NANS’25
