ABOUT WOLFRAM KORTEN
My research activity is focussed on the properties of atomic nuclei in particular those developing under extreme conditions such as spin (rapidly rotating nuclei), shape (superdeformed nuclei), proton-to-neutron ratio (exotic nuclei) and mass (superheavy nuclei). My main experimental expertise are spectroscopic methods using high energy photons (gamma rays), electrons and other charged particles in order to investigate different aspects of the structure of nuclei. As research director and group leader I have been overseeing all nuclear structure activities of CEA\'s nuclear physics division in Saclay. I have initiated and lead research projects in large international collaborations and at many different laboratories, e.g. GANIL (France), GSI (Germany), Legnaro (Italy), Univ. of Jyvaeskylae (Finland), Berkeley, Argonne, MSU (all USA), and RIKEN (Japan). As part of my mission as international expert of CEA I have served on advisory committees for GANIL, IPN Orsay, ILL Grenoble (all France), Univ. of Jyvaeskylae (Finland) and FAIR/GSI (Germany). Teaching is an integral part of my scientific activity, both on the graduate and post graduate level, having lectured at the University of Bonn, the Bonn-Cologne Graduate School and the Masters school NPAC at the University Paris XI. I am interested to accept new challenges in the (national and international) nuclear and particle physics community.
