About William Kleinschmidt
I love fake slaps. In fact, there are few things that bring me more joy than making my friends beat me up on camera as I craft the perfect shot to capture the moment. Their shocked reactions to the final videos remind me why I fell in love with storytelling in the first place. As a Film & Advertising student, I want a career in a field that will help me invoke those types of emotional responses in people and I\'m looking to join a team that creates the stories that accomplish that. Through Carolina Film Association, I have experienced the ins and outs of film production. I am currently a producer for “Dingus,” a student short film about what happens when bad luck and narcissism get in the way of a first date. This role has shown me the importance of strong communication on the administrative side of projects and that attention to details is crucial in the creative process. On the Audio-Video desk at The Daily Tar Heel, I’ve earned editing experience while gaining an understanding of the punctuality and conciseness needed in a professional newsroom. As an interviewer, producer and editor for Pit Perspectives, I learned how to take other people’s stories and turn them into a cohesive narrative podcast episode. When I’m not working at my computer or behind a camera, I perform with the UNC Walk-Ons, an all-gender acapella group as a baritone singer or in other student-theatre productions. In between schoolwork, projects and rehearsals, I fill my time with reality tv, and it is my dream to be on Survivor one day. But no matter whether I’m in front of the camera or working behind-the-scenes, I want to create pieces that move and invoke, one slap at a time.
