About William Warshauer
I’m passionate about fighting poverty in ways that are locally owned and self-sustaining. For more than a decade, I\'ve led the international nonprofit organization TechnoServe, which has pioneered business solutions to poverty for almost 60 years. Our incredible staff-95% of whom are from the country where they work-help people gain the skills, connections, and confidence to take advantage of self-sustaining market opportunities. In this way, people build better lives for themselves, their families, and their communities, long after we leave. As CEO, I’ve had the privilege of guiding TechnoServe’s strategy, organizational growth, and cross-sector partnerships, helping scale economically and environmentally sustainable solutions in 30+ countries. I work closely with a variety of partners–including donors, board members, corporations, and local governments–to ensure strong governance, transparency, and measurable impact. A longtime member of the Nespresso Sustainability Advisory Board, I have previously served on Boards of Public Health organizations in Africa and Asia and on the board of a small U.S. charity. Follow me here to learn more about- The latest market-based initiatives reducing poverty around the world- Food systems and agriculture- Job creation, especially for women and youth- Regenerative business: Building a people- and nature-positive world- All things impact measurementWhen I’m not thinking and writing about how to make global development more effective, I enjoy reading, cycling, hiking, listening to international music, and geeking out about tech both new and old (mechanical watches, anyone?). Opinions here reflect mine alone.
