ABOUT WILLIAM SCARBOROUGH

I am the Tax/SEC Director at Hancock Askew and have over 40 years of accounting and taxation experience. I received my BBA in Accounting from Armstrong State University (now Georgia Southern), Master of Taxation and Master of Professional Accountancy from Georgia State University (graduating summa cum laude), and a law degree graduating magna cum laude. I have also taken tax courses while in law school and in the LLM Tax program at Georgetown Law School. I have obtained seven professional accounting certifications through successfully completing seven professional examinations. In 2013, I received the Notable Alumni Award from Armstrong State University. In 2021, I passed the Georgia Bar Exam and in 2022, I passed the IRS Enrolled Agent Exam. I recently retired from the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) after a distinguished 30-year career. During that time, I received six Director Awards, the Chairman\'s Award for Excellence, and multiple Special Act awards for outstanding work on financial fraud investigations. I was promoted to Associate Chief Accountant in the Division of Enforcement in 2001; prior to that I was promoted to Assistant Chief Accountant in the Division of Corporation Finance. Before coming to the SEC, I was a senior tax manager in an international accounting firm in Atlanta where I worked for over ten years being promoted to senior, manager, and senior tax manager. I have extensive experience in U.S. GAAP and financial reporting, SEC Reporting and Enforcement, forensic accounting, litigation support, and taxation. Along with being a Certified Public Accountant, I am a Certified Fraud Examiner, Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Management Accountant, Certified Global Management Accountant, Certified Valuation Analyst, and IRS enrolled agent. I am also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, American Bar Association, Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants, Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, Institute of Internal Auditors, Institute of Management Accountants, National Association of Tax Professionals, and the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts.
