I examine products, people and processes to determine how they work and why they fail. Everything is made of something, so every problem can use a materials scientist.I examine the performance of products, structures and devices through their materials, design, application and environment. I\'ve managed hundreds of projects, prepared and managed budgets, negotiated and controlled costs, scopes and timelines to deliver timely answers with value.I\'m a Vice President in Thornton Tomasetti\'s Forensics practice based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I focus on root cause failure analysis and design evaluation of structural materials, ferrous and non-ferrous metals analysis, structure/property relationships, chemistry and heat treatment effects on the strength and performance of materials, fracture mechanics and environmental effects on materials. My research includes analysis of implant and device materials, fracture analysis and microscopy, corrosion, materials selection, and the failure of welds. I\'ve consulted on issues involving utility and infrastructure components, medical devices and implants, construction equipment, piping, pressure vessels, industrial and pharmaceutical production equipment, railroad and automotive components, and consumer products.We work to present complex issues and solutions to a broad audience. With clear and concise communication we help organizations make critical decisions about operations, strategy and innovation.We work with large and small teams, often collaborating with everyone from the mechanics to lawyers and MBAs to MDs. Our greatest successes come by managing the complex to make it simple and valuable to everyone in the room.
