About Bill Boss
A former boss once suggested to me that I should write a book. No, he wasn’t trying to send me on a new career path. He said I should write a book about context switching. He was right. In the previous 18 months, I had become the company product trouble-shooter. I dove into our offerings for the P&C insurance market for needed revitalization. After three months, restructuring added an underperforming aviation iOS application to the mix. That app recognized an increase in user engagement of 120% in only four months. Eight months later it was on to ensure proper product direction for a new partnership. That endeavor had me speaking about big data and predictive analytics at a safer cities summit in D.C. and an energy and utilities conference in Vienna. I’ve been fortunate to have these experiences, but most importantly it’s what I have learned-Make sure you solve the “right” problem for your customers. As soon as you think you understand their problem, ask three more questions. And then ask three more-Integrity will never lead to an apology-Teams need more than focus. They need a respectful leader with focus-Communication is important every moment of every day-We undervalue creativity, but we also wrongly identify it. True creativity is evolutionary-The “hidden” is more interesting and valuable than the obvious. All this has led to some great success as well-Insurance products utilized 7 of the top 10 U.S. P&C insurers-Aviation product saw a 470% increase in stability-40+ product and marketing team members let me guide them to make our products the U.S. market leader with 60% market share-I was co-author of a U.S. Patent.(Look it up:#82•••63)But I’m not going to write that book right now. It seems I’m too busy, but I’d be happy to speak to you about what problems you’re trying to solve. And yes, I’ll ask a lot questions because that’s how we solve the right problems. Give me a shout at w••••••••@gmail.com. Thanks!
