Clinical interests: My passion is helping with difficult endocrine problems, particularly diabetes, diabetes during pregnancy, and thyroid diseases. For diabetes, all treatment modalities are available, including sensor augmented insulin pumps, continuous glucose sensors, and telemedicine visits. I have been certified by the ECNU program for reading thyroid ultrasound, and performing thyroid nodule fine needle aspiration in our office for diagnosis and management of thyroid nodules. Our staff has an extensive clinical research division that participates in clinical trials testing new treatments and new devices for diabetes. I have been on the clinical faculty at Texas Tech School of Medicine since moving to Amarillo from Boston in 1986.Management interests: I am a founder, and managing partner of Amarillo Medical Specialists. Clinical informatics, practice management, EHR deployment, Patient Centered Medical Home, Health Information Exchange, and Accountable Care Organization operations have been special interests. I was among the first physicians board certified in Clinical Informatics in 2013. I also represent the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists as a reviewer for the AMA CPT Editorial Panel.Population Health: I spearheaded the founding of Amarillo Legacy Medical ACO, the region\'s first Accountable Care Organization in 2012, and initiated contracts with the CMS Medicare Shared Savings Program and multiple commercial payors. ALMA includes about 225 providers, is accountable for about Medicare lives in Amarillo area, and also has quality/value based contracts with many commercial insurance companies and Medicare Advantage plans.Clinical Specialties: Diabetes, thyroid diseases, endocrine problems. Board certified in Internal Medicine since 1985. Board certified in Clinical Informatics since 2013.
