ABOUT WILLIAM WEBSTER

I am a Director of CRISP - Centre for Research into information Surveillance and Privacy, and between 2014 and 2019 I was Head of the Management, Work and Organisation Division of the Stirling Management School. I am one of Europe’s leading experts on the policy processes and governance structures surrounding the provision of CCTV systems and surveillance in everyday life. Between 2009 and 2013, I led the “Living in Surveillance Societies” (LiSS) COST Action, which involved a network of over 150 academics in 26 countries. I am Editor-in-Chief of the Journal Information Polity and co-Chair of the European Group of Public Administration Permanent Study Group on eGovernance. I am also a chair of the Scottish Privacy Forum. I have been involved in a number of international research projects, including IRISS (H2020) and SmartGov (ESRC). I have also advised a range of agencies about surveillance matters, including the Information Commissioner’s Office, the Scottish Government, the Home Office, Police Scotland the Office of the Biometrics and Surveillance Camera Commissioner and a number of local authorities. I have extensive experience of delivering executive education to practitioners in the public services management area.
