About William Meyer

Dr. Meyer is a part-time Academic Associate to Quest Diagnostics. He was formerly a Director, Medical Science Liaison in Infectious Disease and Immunology for Quest Diagnostics. He previously had technical responsibility for a portion of the laboratory services provided in the East Region of Quest Diagnostics. He is the administrative director for the numerous NIH and CDC-funded laboratory testing services associated with the HIV-related research studies.He graduated first in his class from Loyola College in 1977 with a B.S. degree in Medical Technology. He received several academic scholarships to attend the graduate program at the University of Maryland at Baltimore, Dept of Medical Microbiology and Immunology. He received his Ph.D. degree in 1982. In 2005, he became a Diplomate in the American Board of Medical Microbiology.Dr. Meyer initiated the Clinical Virology testing services in 1982. The scope of these services expanded in 1985 to include specialty testing in support of antiviral trials in HIV disease. In 1988, his Virology laboratory initiated amplified nucleic acid testing.He has co-authored more than 200 laboratory-based publications/abstracts dealing with Infectious Disease diagnosis, management and progression. Additionally, his organization has served as a Central Metabolic, Hepatitis and HIV Laboratory for several NIH-funded projects.Dr. Meyer formerly served as the Chair of the NIH AIDS Program Virology Quality Assessment Advisory Board and was a member of the NIH Men\'s AIDS Cohort (MACS) and Women’s Interagency HIV Study (WIHS) Laboratory and Specimen Repository Committee. He has functioned as a consultant to the Adult and Pediatric HIV Clinical Trials programs (ACTG/IMPAACT); the Pediatric HIV/AIDS Cohort Study (PHACS); the Adolescent Medicine Trials Network for HIV/AIDS Interventions (ATN) Study and the HIV Prevention Trials Network (HPTN). He also served as the primary contact regarding SARS-CoV-2 serologic and sequencing services provided to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.Dr. Meyer has presented invited lectures in Virology at the Mayo Clinic and the Pan American Society for Clinical Virology national conventions. He has served on several CDC sponsored committees for HIV and HCV diagnostics.Updated 1/2026
