Senior Analysis Engineer @Dril-Quip
Aberdeen, GB
Customer facing lead engineer, responsible for European region. Supporting both the local and regional engineering groups, delivering customer presentations, guiding equipment designs and creating new design for gaps in the product portfolio. Defining methodologies and executing large-scale non-linear integrity assessments. • Liaising with internal and external customers to scope out work and deliver to agreed time and cost • Providing support to engineering (surface/subsea) with detailed hand calculations in MathCAD, Excel and advanced non-linear Finite Element Analyses (Abaqus) • Steering the analysis group with guidance on interpretation of design code compliance approaches and contributing to best practice documents • Design, development, virtual prototyping and correlation with qualification tests for a new type of metal-to-metal seal product family (HPHT)• Checking / reviewing of engineering calculations, designs and analysis reports • Key user of commercial analysis software (Abaqus standard and Explicit), producing training materials and giving ‘lunch and learn’ sessions to disseminate knowledge • Supporting sales and tending activities with reports & presentations • Management of external 3rd party work covering CFD & riser analysis• Creating 3D CAD assemblies using PTC Creo, ME10 and Solidworks. • Python scripting of a non-linear material model (monotonic stress-strain) to ASME Div. 2 Annex 3-D. • 3D Wellhead system analysis (static capacity and elastic fatigue to DNV RP 0142 / C203) of the SS-15RLD wellhead - Premier Catcher• Mechanical design and fatigue analysis of a 22” subsea external tie back connector to TR-03541, DNV RP 0142/C203 - Johan Sverdrup• Thermal analysis of subsea wellheads - CNOOC Gainde• Subsea protective structure design, analysis covering trawler snag and impact loading to DNV RP C204 / C208, Norsok U-001 / U-002, ISO 19902 - Brodgar H4/H5

ABOUT WILLIAM BOOT MIMECHE
A chartered Engineer with 25+ years of experience across high-volume manufacturing, medical devices (class II & engineering consultancy, and the oil & gas industry. Known for combining analytical thinking with practical hands-on engineering, I specialise in design-by-analysis (FEA), virtual prototyping, and solving complex technical challenges that demand innovation and cross-disciplinary management.I have a strong record of leading multi-disciplinary project teams, delivering high-risk projects on time and within budget, and consistently exceed client and stakeholder expectations. Equally comfortable in the office or in the workshop (a hands-on tinkerer at heart!), I bridge the gaps between conceptual design, simulation, prototyping, verification and validation.Core Strengths• Project engineering and leadership of multi-disciplinary teams• Effective communicator, highly adept at technical report writing and presenting• Extensive knowledge of industry standards (ASME, API, BS, DNV, ISO, NORSOK)• Design Excellence: DMADV, DMAIC (Green Belt Trained @ Johnson & Johnson)• Design & Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA / GD & T)• LEAN: Cellular manufacturing, JIT, VA/VE, Kaizen, Poka-Yoke, FMEA, SMED, 8D• Full-lifecycle project planning (scoping, scheduling, risk, CTR, WBS, SOW)• Key analysis software user: Abaqus, Ansys, MathCAD, STAAD Pro• Experienced CAD user: ProE/Wildfire, Creo, ME10, AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks• Practical (hands-on) in the workshop Design-by-Analysis & Virtual Prototyping Expertise• Code compliance analyses• Global system integrity evaluations (5M+ DOF models)• Non-linear materials, damage evolution & failure • Dynamic/impact and dropped object analysis (implicit & explicit)• Eigenvalue and non-linear buckling (RIKS)• Prototype qualification, strain-gauging correlations• Wellhead system analyses (DNV RP-0142, DNV-E-0104)• Thermal analysis (steady/transient)• Fatigue assessment and fatigue-enhanced design (SAF/SCF)• Lifting and handling design (DNV 2.7-1 / 2.7-3)• Hydraulic connector design and analysis (XT and Wellheads)• HPHT design and metal-to-metal sealing FEA• Structural subsea XT frames, tension frames, deck equipment• Process automation & scripting (APDL, Python, VBA, DOS, Bash)Specialties: Surface trees, subsea protective structures, metal-to-metal seals, tie-back systems, hydraulic connectors, subsea trees & running toolsInterests: Gym, mountain biking, RC aircraft and drones, electronics, smart-home automation (Home Assistant), and scuba diving (PADI Open Water).
