About William Henning

Dr. Henning has over 18 years of experience as a Healthplan CMO and Healthcare executive. Most recently he was CMO of the new United Healthcare Community Plan of California. In November of 2015, he and a small team started up United\'s MediCal product for the state of California. He currently has over 30 years of clinical and administrative experience, including 12 years as CMO of Inland Empire Healthplan. In 2010 he was appointed to the California Healthcare Workforce Policy Commission by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. He currently serves as chair of the commission following reappointment by Governor Brown. The commission was created by the Song-Brown Health Care Workforce Training Act. He also sits on the board of the Health Professions Education Foundation. He has chaired the California delegation to the American Osteopathic Association\'s annual House of Delegates since 2015.Dr. Henning is a past President of his state professional society- the Osteopathic Physician and Surgeons of California. He has experience working with numerous state programs such as TeleHealth, Behavioral Health integration, chronic disease management, Patient Centered Medical Home and Disability Rights. He remains interested in Healthcare HIT, Primary Care SMART tools and healthcare innovation. He has led his medical services team to numerous quality awards including a CMS 5-star rating for Pharmacy (one of only 5 in the nation) and scores of 100% on CMS Model of Care/Structure and Process and multiple scores of 100% on the standards portion of NCQA accreditation. Prior to his work at IEHP, Dr. Henning, served 15 years as Director and practicing physician of a prominent San Diego primary care group. From 19••••95, he served as Hospital Chief of Staff and subsequently as a member of his local hospital governing board.Besides his vast accomplishments in the medical community, Dr. Henning has 17 years of teaching experience.
