About Billy Helm
After getting a Bachelors in Petroleum Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines, I spent over 3 years working my way up from a floorhand on a drilling rig to engineer, lead engineer and training to become an frac operations manager. After surviving the covid oil crash in Midland, I decided I would go back to school to pursue software engineering. I received a software engineering certificate and began working for a small German maintenance consulting firm as a front end engineer. After a year of increasing responsibilities we were bought by Accenture and I stepped into a product ownership role where I managed over 20 developers on an offshore team. Eventually I received a call which lead me back to an oil company where I am now a full stack software engineer with Coterra Energy.
