About Will Stewart
I build finance organizations that scale — and fix the ones that don\'t.I\'ve spent the last six years doing exactly that at Sonar. I joined in 2020 as the founding US finance hire — one person, three regional outsourced providers, no unified systems, no audit history — with a mandate to build public-company-level financial infrastructure from the ground up. The pre-Sonar foundation made it possible: nearly a decade at PwC, working on high-stakes, Fortune 50 public companies; Director of SEC Reporting & Technical Accounting at a public company; and CFO of a boutique PE fund. But Sonar is where that foundation was put to work at scale. When I joined, the entire finance function was one person coordinating document submission to outsourced providers across three regions. My first weeks were spent as primary internal point of contact for the company\'s first-ever external audit — no predecessor, no prior audit history. Over six years, five roles, and four promotions, I built a 20+ person in-house organization, oversaw the financial technology stack, designed the treasury architecture, maintained the multi-jurisdiction tax framework, led every major transaction, and restructured billing, procurement, and payroll that were no longer working effectively for the scaling organization. Today I\'m Corporate VP of Finance & Administration, direct to the CFO, at a PE-backed B2B SaaS company preparing for a potential IPO.At its highest-stakes moments: primary finance workstream owner for the company\'s $412M secondary financing at a $4.7B valuation — the capital event that established Sonar\'s public markets profile — and owning the accounting, reporting, and internal execution for a concurrent US domestication and debt recapitalization, the most structurally complex transaction in the company\'s history. These transactions are the visible surface of years of building the infrastructure and organizational capability underneath them.I\'ve been the organizational constant through three CFOs, five FP & A leaders, two Tax VPs, and one Treasury VP. While my peers average under one year of tenure, I am six years in — the institutional memory of this organization and the primary knowledge transfer resource for every senior finance leader who has joined it. I built a trusted relationship with the company founder that spanned every major milestone, including being among the handful of people he called personally when he decided to transition to an executive product leadership role.
