ABOUT WILFREDO RIVERA

Chicago based and originally from Honduras. I have enjoyed a rewarding career in the Dance field as dancer, choreographer, curator, teacher and as Artistic Director. In Chicago: I trained with Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, I\'m a founding member & former soloist of River North Dance Chicago and also featured in River North’s Emmy award-winning \"Reality of a Dreamer.\" At its core my work and curatorial practices aspire to speak to the humanity that binds us. The foundation of this creative process asks me to passionately use the abstract purity of dance as a vehicle to create an expressive narrative that reflects our contemporary existence. My work tends to be unabashedly bold, sensuous, sorrowful, joyful and playful. Its structure is informed and fueled by numerous perspectives. Ultimately, CRDT\'s cohort aspires to create thoughtful art that connects diverse communities, fuels dialogue & inspires self-reflection. Bio: Mr. Rivera was honored with the 2009 Cliff Dwellers Arts Foundation Choreography Award, a 2001 After Dark Award and nominated for a 3ARTS Award in 2017 & 2018. Mr. Rivera\'s concert work has been featured at The Auditorium Theatre, The Chicago Symphony Center with the Chicago Sinfonietta, Chicago Jazz Festival, Hyde Park Jazz Festival, Harris Theater, Ruth Page Center for the Arts, DuSable Museum, Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts, Links Hall, Old Town School of Folk Music, and Mayne Stage. Theater work includes productions for Goodman Theatre, Forward Theater, Bailiwick Theatre, Metropolis Arts Center, Columbia College, American Theater Co, American Players Theater, Porchlight Theater and Pegasus Players. In 2016, he launched American Catracho; this 4-year exploration of the immigrant experience has premiered in segments and will debut this Fall at The Auditorium Theatre in celebration of CRDT\'s 20th Anniversary Season. Currently working as choreographer on “La Havana Madrid” written by & starring Sandra Delgado.
