About Whitney Gardner
It\'s been a wild ride. From anti-trafficking nonprofit in Costa Rica to sales at SaaS start-ups.Helping women and children exploited in the commercial sex industry taught me a specific skill. A trait that most of us don’t learn in our Western education. It involves risk, but is one of the most valuable skills we can acquire. I’m talking about empathy.Empathy is the ability to understand what someone else is experiencing from their point of view. I found it’s easier to grow in empathy by intentionally exposing myself to others who are different from me. An exploited child. An engineering leader who is short on time. An Executive Director who must wear multiple hats to keep operations running. Everyone needs some empathy.It may seem like quite a jump to go from running a nonprofit to selling software but I’ve found that empathy and sales go hand in hand.
