ABOUT WHITNEY THOMAS
I am an early-career biologist with interests at the intersection of ecology, evolution, and conservation biology, broadly interested in the genomic basis of population decline and resilience. I graduated from Dartmouth College with a B.A. in Biology (concentration in Ecological Genetics) and a minor in Public Policy (concentration in Conservation Policy). My undergraduate research includes a thesis in microbiology, defended with High Honors, and a study on endemic warbler vocalizations in the Cayman Islands. After graduating, I worked as a Summer Research Fellow at the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance, developing field-adaptable genotyping tools for endangered species using Oxford Nanopore sequencing technology. Most recently, I have been a post-baccalaureate intern in the Moncrieff Lab at the University of Oklahoma, investigating how river barriers shape avian population divergence in the Neotropics. I am excited to join the Ting Lab at the University of Oregon\'s Institute of Ecology and Evolution as an incoming PhD student, where I will continue pursuing my passion for conservation genomics and evolutionary biology.
