Oregon Spinal Cord Injury Connection (OSCI) is the first and only organization in Oregon that champions the spinal cord injury community. It is both a trusted guide and a seasoned authority of spinal cord injury in Oregon, offering access to vital social support, resources, services, education, opportunities and connections that empower individuals and the community to not just survive but thrive in life with a spinal cord injury. OSCI stands out due to its unique model of employing community health workers who have lived experience with spinal cord injury. This lived experience grounds the organization\'s work in trust and mutual respect, giving it relevance and credibility to the community and healthcare providers. OSCI leads with empathy and genuine human kindness, focusing on helping individuals navigate the complex healthcare system and regain autonomy. The organization emphasizes creating authentic spaces for community growth, where those with SCIs can connect, share experiences, and build confidence. The goal is to foster interconnection, where friendships and a sense of belonging build confidence and health so that individuals who have benefited, in turn, pay it forward to others, forming a robust community of support and social capital.
