ABOUT WESLEY ESSER

Wes Esser is the CIO of the MIT Sloan School of Management, where he focuses on how to derive business value and enable enduring impact through technology. Wes and his team oversee the implementation and support of services and technologies that further MIT Sloan’s teaching and research mission and enable effective and efficient administration of the School. As a leader he actively engages his peers across Sloan’s leadership, bringing together the often-disparate interests of its many communities, academic programs, and research centers to catalyze action and innovation at a School-wide level, and to inform the School’s relationship to MIT’s central administration. He enjoys coaching and mentoring as a way of building personal connection, to help people grow, and to build engaged, high-performing teams. Wes is committed to individual growth and helping people achieve their potential, regardless of whether they have followed a standard road, or if, like him, they have taken a more roundabout path.Before joining MIT Sloan in 2006, Wes spent 8 years at Northeastern University and Babson College, where he was responsible for supporting faculty, student, and staff computing needs. Prior to the move into higher education, Wes worked in accounting and IT at two large law firms, Ropes and Gray and Hale & Dorr.Wes holds a BA in Art with a minor in Italian from the University of Massachusetts at Boston. He holds a certificate from MIT Sloan’s Greater Boston Executive Program, and has served on several MIT-wide committees, including the pandemic-focused Academic Continuity Working Group and the Adhoc Advisory Committee on Learning Management Systems. He speaks fluent Italian and Spanish.In his free time, Wes practices his language skills through travel, recreates in his kitchen dishes he has encountered, and putters in his garden.
