Northwestern Mutual is a Fortune 500 financial services company. I serve as the primary attorney for client advocacy services, reinsurance, and political law matters. Highlights of my practice include:• Acting as the primary advisor to the operational aspect of the Company’s client advocacy function, which encompasses underwriting, risk product servicing and claims. My duties include establishing and maintaining compliance with various underwriting, policy benefits and other insurance-related laws and regulations, and helping to formulate corresponding company policies and procedures, with respect to both day-to-day operational and project-based initiatives; • Advising the Company on all internal and external reinsurance matters, which involves several company reinsurance relationships, and includes the negotiation and drafting of reinsurance treaties. In this capacity, I have had the opportunity to lead dedicated teams and assist senior Company leadership to strategize around the use of reinsurance; • Assist with legal and regulatory questions pertaining to solvency rules and regulations; and • Monitor and assist with industry response to insurance regulatory developments arising from National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) meetings and activities. Attend Spring, Summer and Fall NAIC meetings. I also have extensive background on information protection and privacy issues, including serving as Chairperson of the American Council of Life Insurers Privacy Committee from November 2012 – November 2016.
