My Why! Why Cybersecurity?Who wants to be the victim of a cyberattack? No one that I know of; however, in this day and age of increased technology use, there is a rise in these attacks. One of the best ways to effectively secure one’s data from intruders and theft is through penetration testing. Wouldn’t knowing that your data is secure and safe give you peace of mind? I’m going to say “Yes”! This is why I am so passionate about data protection and penetration testing! I like to look at what I do in terms of cybersecurity and compare it to protecting your home. There are different ways to enter into a home, such as going through the window, the door, maybe possibly the chimney; or someone may provide a key by being deceptive; these are all considered social engineering. When you think about it, there are so many ways to “breach” a home. How many locks are there on the doors? What kind of locks are being used? It’s all pervasive and aligns with how security works. I love what I do as a penetration tester because it helps people to feel safe and to live their normal everyday lives without fear that something is going to happen that could possibly impact their ability to feed their families, pay their bills, etc. These breaches on a personal and/or business level can be devastating. There are many companies out there that say they do penetration testing, but I know personally that they are not conducting complete tests. To use the analogy of home security, these companies may see that from the outside, the windows aren’t the best; but they’re not going as far as looking at the whole picture. What are the other areas that an intruder can possibly gain unauthorized access? This is what separates us from other companies; we do a full test and provide a complete and detailed report on our findings. We really identify what’s important and set the proper expectations.
