In this role I recruit, coordinate, and manage 150 volunteers during the four day robotics competition. The competition is part of the FIRST Robotics program developed by Dean Kamen to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership. The FIRST Robotics Oklahoma Planning Committee oversees twenty separate events through the course of the school year that culminate in the FIRST Robotics Competition in the spring. I currently log approximately 20 volunteer hours per month between August and December as a member of the planning committee. This time increases in January during the spin up to the competition in March to approximately 40 hours per month. I also assist in the FIRST Championship which is held at the end of April. During the championship, I am responsible for a portion of the event and its volunteers at the national level.In addition to managing the volunteers before and during the competition, I also compile photographs taken by volunteer photographers and incorporate them into a yearly book which is published and used as a sponsor thank you and for recognition to public officials supporting FIRST in Oklahoma. FIRST Robotics is a not for profit 501(c)3 organization focused on supporting STEM initiatives nationally.
