About Wendy MacKie
I am motivated by a compelling vision for community development and all that includes. I find a new beginning or a big challenge exciting. Creating strategic direction and corresponding action plans toward the development of replicable programs and services is what I do best. I am a staunch advocate for strong partnerships that create the critical efficiencies necessary to sustain worthwhile efforts. I always strive to find the triple bottom line where all stakeholders become beneficiaries. I understand the intersection between public-private partnerships and how to communicate to both. I see places where I can help. I believe that economic development begins at the community level. I know that workforce development begins with one person and one company. Access to resources and communication are the keys to it all. The background photo behind my profile picture showcases a boat built in my honor by a small group of high school students participating in a summer work program in Bristol, RI. I am proud of the work I have done with young people to help bridge career exposure to the actual career using age and stage appropriate skill building. My work in the boating industry began in 2006 in Massachusetts with a marine trades career exposure pilot program serving 150 high school students. That program was the seed that bloomed into a complete spectrum of worker pipeline programming over the next 15 years. These demand-driven programs serve young people in 4th grade and continue through to adult incumbent workers. Over the years, my work focused on nonprofit and program administration, financial development and organization start-up and expansion - it has always been about economic growth and community development. I have been personally driven to ensure the infrastructure and funding are there to support best practice programing and service sustainability.
