About Wendy Loewenstein
I\'m an innovator. A learner. I have gravitated towards roles that involve building something that has not existed before. From developing the IDEAS Room and services at the University of Nebraska Omaha, College of Education, to my current role as the director of the first K-8th grade blended-virtual school in the state of Nebraska. Creating experiences for learners with a dedicated team of educators is empowering. What drives me is a passion to change the face of education. To create opportunities for learners who do not fit the mold of the traditional model of learning. To determine how to fit the pieces of a larger system together to create a personalized experience for learners, teachers, and parents. I was not a school principal prior to becoming the director of Omaha Virtual School (OVS). While some might have seen that as a disadvantage, I took it as an opportunity to solve problems and create systems that met our program needs, and not just do things because that \"is the way we always do it.\" I am a recovering perfectionist who has learned that my failures are opportunities for the greatest growth. Teaching and learning has been at the heart of my career. I have taught at almost every level in education: high school English teacher, elementary school librarian, high school librarian, and higher education with pre-service teachers and Masters\' students. All of my degrees are from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and I completed my Doctorate in Educational Leadership in May 2015. I began a new journey at Omaha Public Schools as an instructional technology trainer in July 2015, and fell in love with the passion and energy at Omaha Public Schools in the area of technology integration. It was through OPS that I was given the opportunity to start Omaha Virtual School in the fall of 2016. I am blessed to be apart of a wonderful, innovative district.
