About Wendy Hawthorne
I’ve always hated to lose. The surest way to get me to do something was to tell me I couldn’t. That characteristic, combined with a strong moral compass and passion for purpose-driven work, has led me through an exciting career in small business, non-profit and government with demonstrated success for the start-up and growth phases. Complicated, challenging, intersectional – those are my favorite jobs to tackle. I love to raise money for a purpose. In my first career as an engineering consultant, that meant developing new business by building relationships, selling expertise, writing competitive proposals, and delivering top-notch services. I took that experience and applied it in the non-profit sector – funny thing is that it is exactly the same, just with different “customers”. In both sectors, building strong relationships and delivering a great product are the keys to success. Since 2022, I\'ve been honored to serve as the strategic director of IIJA (the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law) and IRA (the Inflation Reduction Act) for Governor Polis and the State of Colorado. Essentially, my charge has been to get as much money as possible for the State of Colorado to advance our goals around climate, energy, transportation, broadband and resilience, all while driving equity. Just over three years into these historic federal investments and Colorado has been awarded over $10 Billion (!), ranking eleventh in the nation for competitive funds received (and, remember, we are a small state!).
