ABOUT WENDELL BROKAW
With a PhD in Computational Electromagnetics and over two decades of professional experience, I specialize in power system stability, machine learning, and data science. As a Principal EMT Study Engineer at ICF, I lead electromagnetic transient (EMT) studies for utility, developer, and ISO/RTO clients, tackling challenges posed by the integration of inverter-based resources into the North American energy grid. My work includes PSCAD modeling, sub-synchronous oscillation screening, and weak grid integration studies, supporting NERC reliability initiatives and 2800 compliance. Leveraging my advanced expertise in computational electromagnetics, I address complex interactions between inverter-based resources and the grid that traditional tools cannot resolve. My mission is to enable grid modernization while maintaining stability and reliability, particularly as renewable energy sources like wind, solar, and battery storage grow rapidly. My commitment to innovation is evident through my strategic contributions to the energy sector and dedication to enhancing the resilience of power systems infrastructure.
