About Tim Wellette
In June 2020 I received my bachelor’s degree from Oregon State University, dual majoring in mechanical and manufacturing engineering with an option in product development. Since then, I have been actively gaining experience from various mechanical engineering positions in the electric and combustion automotive, vocational, trucking, and micro-mobility industries and optical scanning industry. I believe these experiences have led me to become a well-versed engineer and thus a prime candidate for many job postings.Through salaried positions, internships, team projects, and college coursework, I’ve gained strong experience in the engineering process. Along with my résumé, I’ve narrowed down my professional experience into the following three pillars:Product Design and Development- Rapid prototyping and hands-on manufacturing with 3D-printing, wood, plastics, composites, and metals (MIG welding, CNC mills, routers, ply cutters; manual mills, lathes, drill presses, notchers/copers, saws, hand tools)- Post-processing (NX, Edgecam, Fusion 360)- Continuously practicing “design elegance” by balancing functionality, practicality, and aesthetics (if applicable)- Providing creative solutions whilst considering manufacturing cost reduction, time-to-design, and product quality- Hand-drawn design and CAD (Solidworks, NX, Creo, Inventor), including drafting and checking drawings with GD & T- Industrial product and graphic design, animation (Adobe, MS Office)- DFM for injection-molding, die-casting, die-cutting, laser-cutting, and sheet metal/tube processing- Documenting via BoMs, concept and design reviews, source/supplier control documents, etc- Communicating with manufacturers/suppliers as well as internal stakeholders such as quality, regulatory, purchasing, sales/marketing, and leadership to assign and achieve product requirements- Participating as mechanical engineer in product alpha/beta builds (whilst getting feedback from manufacturing) and performing testing on said builds (heat, drop, and vibration tests)- Performing rework to and implementation of designs, legacy products as well as new.Sustaining Engineering- Obtaining information about customer change requests (internal and external) and converting details into design requirements- Collaborating with leadership and engineers who worked previously on legacy products (if available) to solve issues whilst maintaining design intent if possible- Running engineering change orders, clearly detailing all changes, and.please see my resume for more, I ran out of characters here
Experience
Mechanical Engineer
Jan 2024 — Present · Eugene, OR, US
On-board digital scales for weighing loads on semi-trucks, tractors, buses, and large industrial trucks (garbage trucks, dump trucks, etc.). Simultaneously acted as the project lead and mechanical engineer for a new digital scale product for air ride suspensions, still in development. Set up a scheduled roadmap for the product with phases and held weekly meetings to keep everyone responsible, on-task, and on-time. Set up a costed BoM for all configurations of the product, worked with vendors for quotes, and worked with the product manager for kits. Designed whole product from the ground up to meet requirements, worked with software and electrical to keep engineering teams flowing together.
