About Wei Wang
A materials and electrochemical scientist with over 20 years of experience spanning national lab research, DOE program leadership, and interdisciplinary innovation at the intersection of energy storage, AI, and manufacturing. I currently serve as a Laboratory Fellow at PNNL, Deputy Director of the DOE Energy Storage Research Alliance (ESRA), and a detailee with the DOE Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Technologies Office (AMMTO), where I support the national strategy for domestic battery manufacturing. At PNNL, I led the Energy Storage Materials Initiative (ESMI), where I directed the creation of MIRAL (Materials Innovation through Robotics and AI Lab)—a self-driving lab that integrates AI and robotics for accelerated materials discovery. I’ve authored over 120 peer-reviewed papers, hold 23 patents with multiple industry licenses, and have received national recognition for scientific innovation and technology impact.
