About Wei du
Dr. Wei Du is a Chief Engineer and the Solar Subsector Manager at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL). He also holds a joint appointment as a Research Associate Professor at Washington State University (WSU). He is responsible for PNNL’s power electronics strategy and serves as the interim co-director of the PNNL-WSU Advanced Grid Institute (AGI). His main areas of research include control design, modeling, and simulation of power systems with a high penetration of power electronics. He is currently the Principal Investigator of multiple DOE projects that investigate the impacts of inverter-based resources on the stability of power systems. He co-leads the Modeling and Simulation Area of the Universal Interoperability for Grid-Forming Inverters (UNIFI) Consortium. In recent years, he leads the development of WECC standard library grid-forming inverter models. This work was conducted in close collaboration with inverter manufacturers, software vendors, EPRI, and transmission planners and operators. These models (REGFM_A1, REGFM_B1, REGFM_C1 and REPCGFM_C1) have been integrated into leading commercial transient stability simulation tools, including Siemens PSS®E, GE-PSLF, PowerWorld Simulator, Powertech TSAT, and DigSilent PowerFactory for industry and academic use. He also serves as an Associate Editor of Transactions on Smart Grid.
