About Will Thompson

My mission after taking care of my family is to serve my fellow veterans.After returning from a multiple year deployments in Iraq I spent time in the Army\'s Warrior Transition Unit (WTU) and at Walter-Reed Army Medical Center. I learned due to my injuries and other mental health issues that I would be medically retired from the Army. I felt that I had lost my purpose not being able to serve in the military. While going through physical and mental therapy I found a new purpose. Serve my fellow veterans. While going through my own issues and learning what I could do to improve my situation I learned that not all of my fellow brother and sister veterans were aware of all the benefits afforded to them for their service. Since then I have taken off with a fervor volunteering with the VFW, DAV, and Military Order of the Purple Heart filling in in any role I could from service officer to commander. This led me to being able to help my fellow veterans as a DVOP (Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist) for the State of Ohio. My goal as a DVOP and volunteer with the VSO\'s (Veteran Service Organizations) is to provide the best service that I can to all my fellow veterans that need assistance and a hand up. I have started my own recreational therapy farm. This is a learning and working farm that will include other programs such as blacksmithing, woodworking, painting (art), homesteading, apiary, and other therapeutic programs. I will continue to serve my community and my fellow veterans for as long as I can.A new chapter has emerged and I am now working full time with Allen County Veteran Service Commission as Veteran Service Officer. I am still running and working the farm, and taking on this new role. I look forward to the new challenges and opportunities that are in my future.
