Helping animals by creating legal standards forbidding cruelty.There are literally tens of thousands of animal groups, and so many of them do critical, life-saving work. But only a handful conduct political and lobbying campaigns, leveraging the power of government to set minimum standards for the treatment of animals and calling everyone to observe the rule of law. Even fewer animal organizations work in politics to urge support or opposition to political candidates based on the stands on our issues. We cannot afford to be bystanders in the run-up to issue and candidate elections. Indeed, the legislative processes that produce good or bad policy decisions flow directly from the people that voters choose in elections. If we don’t elect good lawmakers, we won’t have good laws. That’s why we must engage in every aspect of the political process, including lobbying for legislation, tipping the balance on ballot measures, and inserting ourselves into candidate elections to get the right people into office.
