Friends of the Children Austin\'s mission is to break the cycle of generational poverty through intentional relationships. Friends Austin provides salaried, full-time mentors, the Friends, to pre-kindergarten youth facing the greatest challenges. Friends work with and mentor these children for 12 1/2 years - no matter what.As Director of Finance and Operations Wayne is responsible for financial and performance reporting; business and system operations; and until August 2025, People and Culture. The transition out of P&C was achieved by having mentored and promoted the Deputy Director of People and Operations to lead a new P&C department.During his tenure, Friends Austin\'s annual revenue has increased by 53% to $5.4M budget for 2026, the number of youth served is projected to grow by 130%, and the number of staff by 142% to 46. A primary driver of this growth was the receipt of funding from the state of Texas of $15M. Wayne led the project team that developed the proposal that won the five year grant in 2024.
