ABOUT ALEXANDRIA WASHINGTON
Dr. Alexandria Washington is Public Health Advisor with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) in Rockville, MD. In this capacity she provides program monitoring and oversight for substance use prevention grant recipients. She also oversees the development of Notice of Funding Opportunity Announcements for the Division. Previously Dr. Washington served as the Director of Legal Services at Pittman Law Group. In this capacity, she tracked and analyzed federal and state legislation, provided administrative support to the government affairs and legal services team, and supervised undergraduate and graduate-level interns amongst other tasks. She is also an award-winning health advocate who has a passion for health policy, community engagement, and developing inclusionary systems health systems. Her efforts to update her city\'s charter to include non-binary terms were chronicled in Forbes. Dr. Washington has over seven years of experience in program management and capacity building in various sectors including nonprofit, state government, and private corporations. Dr. Washington earned her Doctorate in Public Health from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University with a concentration in behavioral science and health education. There she was inducted into the Alpha Mu chapter of Delta Omega Honorary Society in Public Health and recognized by the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities as an HBCU Allstar. She has also completed a certificate in Women\'s Entrepreneurship from Cornell University. When not excelling in her career, Dr. Washington is committed to community service and is the past Tallahassee Ambassador for the United State of Women and serves on the executive board of the As One Foundation. Her efforts in her community resulted in her being named one of Tallahassee\'s 25 Women You Need to Know.
