ABOUT WASEL UR RAHMAN

As the Energy & Climate Action Engineer, I oversee a portfolio of 25+ buildings, identifying and prioritizing projects that yield maximum energy and greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction to reach City\'s 2025 sustainability targets. In my role, I lead ASHRAE Level I and II audits, lighting enhancements, and re/retro-commissioning projects at City facilities. Through effective collaboration with internal staff and external consultants, I develop innovative solutions that align with the organization\'s goals and leverage state-of-the-art technologies. Projects have resulted in approximately kWh of energy savings, equivalent to savings over the last year. I am assigned as technical lead for two City\'s legacy projects focusing on deep energy retrofit (valued at $15 M) and renewable energy generation (valued at $11 M). I have been actively involved in progressing both projects from initial feasibility studies to procurement and preliminary design, in the process, honing my project management skills by developing Project charter, RACI matrix, Risk Registers, and Owner Project Requirements. In my roles, I have prioritized integrity, respect, and accountability in my relationships with colleagues and clients alike. This has helped to foster long-term professional relationships and achieve desired results in teams that I have worked in. Beyond my professional life, I love everything outdoors (especially summer!). I am into team sports such as soccer and cricket, but also love hiking in the Canadian Rockies or the Alpines whenever I get the chance. I am a firm believer in a brighter, greener future and want to make a difference in the world through my work.
