ABOUT WAQAS UMERDRAZ
Many organisations in the energy and infrastructure sector are under pressure to improve reliability, resilience, and sustainability, especially with Net Zero targets. With my background in Electrical Engineering and Data Science, and an MSc in Engineering Management, I have developed frameworks and led projects on energy efficiency optimisation and digital twin systems. I also bring hands-on exposure to grid protection and distribution networks through my work with NTDC and LESCO. I’m looking to apply these skills to support companies in delivering sustainable, future-ready infrastructure projects.During my MSc, I led a Group Design Project where I managed a small team to design an Energy Management System and a Digital Twin prototype. We aligned it with ISO standards and achieved a projected 24% improvement in energy efficiency. It was a great opportunity to combine technical analysis with leadership and project delivery. As part of my MSc dissertation, I developed a Data-Driven Energy Efficiency Framework using MCDM and analytics. The framework helps engineering firms optimise decision-making for Net Zero, balancing reliability, resilience, and sustainability. It gave me practical experience in applying data science to real engineering challenges. My earlier industry experience with NTDC and LESCO gave me exposure to 220/500kV transmission and 11kV distribution systems, including grid protection, load management, and SCADA operations—experience directly relevant to UK DNO practices.I am proficient in Python, SQL, MATLAB, ETAP, Power BI, and DIgSILENT PowerFactory, and skilled in technical writing, proposal development, and project planning. I am an active member of several professional bodies, including APM, RSS, IET, and PEC (ELECT).My goal is to build a career at the intersection of engineering and data-driven decision-making, contributing to future-ready, sustainable infrastructure while working towards Chartered Engineer status.
