About Wanda Gonzalez-Crespo
Wanda Gonzalez-Crespo is an education leader with over 27 years of experience in public education, specializing in school improvement, instructional leadership, and academic program development in urban schools. She currently serves as Assistant Superintendent for School Improvement & Innovation in the Reading School District, leading district-wide improvement efforts, overseeing innovative program development, and supporting professional learning for schools serving about students.As a member of the district’s executive leadership team, Wanda collaborates with school and central office leaders to strengthen instructional quality, accountability, and continuous improvement. She is the lead planner for the Reading School District’s Innovation Academy, guiding academic program design and implementation to expand student learning opportunities and career pathways.Previously, Wanda served as Director of the English as a Second Language (ESL) Program, where she increased district capacity by expanding ESL teachers, paraprofessionals, and instructional coaches. She opened the ESL Department’s Welcome Center, a hub supporting multilingual families through adult education and ESL classes, providing professional development for educators, and administering student assessments.Wanda led the district’s transition from paper-based to online administration of the WIDA ACCESS for ELs assessment, implemented PDE’s English Learner reclassification protocols, and partnered with PDE to revise and support these protocols at state and national levels. She also planned and launched an internal ESL certification program offering Reading teachers free graduate-level professional development leading to ESL endorsement.Earlier, Wanda served as Principal at Tenth and Green Elementary School, where she led a school improvement initiative that increased the School Performance Profile score from 47 to 61.7 in one year. She also served as K–12 Supervisor of English Language Acquisition, literacy coach, and classroom teacher.Wanda holds a Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility, a Master’s in Education specializing in Teaching English as a Second Language, and certifications in principalship, elementary education, and ESL. Bilingual in English and Spanish, she has extensive experience supporting multilingual learners, literacy development, and leadership capacity building.Her work focuses on building strong instructional systems, expanding access and opportunity for students and families, and supporting leaders in continuous improvement.
