About Waleed Shalaby
First and foremost, my passion is to help patients with cancer. I learned many invaluable lessons early in my training as a surgeon in gynecologic oncology. First, if you always do what’s right for the patient, you will never be faulted. Second, when you think you know what you’re doing… stop, look around, and re- assess. These two themes have always level-set my approach to patient care and in my subsequent transition to industry. Since leaving clinical practice in 2015, I have held a number of roles with increasing responsibilities. At AMAG Pharmaceutical I was the senior medical director in medical affairs for women\'s health with cross-functional responsibilities in business development and clinical development. Thereafter, I moved back into oncology within USMA at Janssen Pharmaceutics. As the medical director, I was responsible for a number of assets across NSCLC, sarcoma, ovarian cancer, and urothelial cancer. During my time at Janssen, I was fortunate to collaborate with multiple stakeholders; R&D, clinical development, commercial, business development, and market access and built consensus around new, cross-functional initiatives and data generation. At NOVOCURE, I broadened my clinical development experience as the global clinical trial lead for a Phase 3 registration trial in platinum-resistant ovarian cancer. I managed a diverse team of clinical research scientists, clinical operations, and 2 CRO’s. We successfully enrolled 540 patients during the pandemic. In that capacity, I developed the medical monitoring plan and collaborated on lifecycle strategies across solid tumors ranging from ovarian, pancreatic, gastric, and NSCLC. As part of my personal development, I sought an opportunity at Daiichi Sankyo to gain greater leadership experience and to impact strategy and research across a broad portfolio within USMA. While I had high expectations for myself in this role, I realized that implementing both strategy and research within a large matrixed organization was not feasible. I recently joined Galvanize Therapeutics as the Vice President of Medical Affairs and Clinical Sciences for Oncology. In my current role, I am involved with the development and execution of data generation and dissemination involving the use of pulsed electric field (PEF) technology for management of solid tumors. This has been an exciting opportunity to build medical affairs and translational science teams across a broad range of solid tumors through the design of pragmatic clinical studies.
