Most digital systems today are held together by more duct tape than we would like to admit. By rushing to scale, clarity is often traded for speed. The results are \"black boxes\" that are difficult to maintain and, unfortunately, vulnerable to exploitation.I focus on the \"un-tangling.\" I look for those questionable design choices where rapid growth has outpaced structural integrity. I remain agnostic of specific tools and frameworks because learning a new language is always secondary to solving the business problem and protecting the person on the other side of the screen.Systems engineering is a social responsibility. We have a duty to be logical and rigorous for the sake of the people who depend on this technology every day. In a digital world where hackers prey on the vulnerable, the maintainers of software are on the frontlines of defense. With increasingly sophisticated attacks on supply chains and the rise of autonomous AI, we must ensure the foundations of our future are actually secure.
