About Wade Fulghum

Mr. Fulghum has more than 30 years of experience as an entrepreneur, advising companies locally and globally. He also served in the U.S. Army, 25th Infantry Division, as a heavy weapons squad leader, and learned from one of the best leaders possible. Before joining NC Innovation, Mr. Fulghum served as Assistant Vice Chancellor for NC State’s Office of Research Commercialization, where he helped build NC State into a global powerhouse in university-startup collaboration design thinking.

   With the EVP/CIO, provide strategy and direction to build NCI’s statewide technology commercialization grants program Provide strategic input to the regional hub directors and university liaisons on areas of technology identification, patent portfolio development and translate knowledge of emerging areas of market opportunity into grant framework Oversee the execution of NCI’s Grants program, including all aspects of preproposal, application, review, reporting and ongoing monitoring are effectively run and monitored by the NCI team Liaise with industry, investors, and entrepreneurs to advance the understanding of NCI and identify areas of collaboration either for the organization or for individual projects Manage the relationships and projects within the State’s two RTP R1 institutions Build and maintain relationships with corporate partners and assist NCI funded projects with commercial strategy development Coordinate and evaluate patent landscaping and market viability assessments of pipeline technologies Represent NCI by participating with various internal and external groups and associations Contribute to external communication efforts related to grants and technology commercialization
