Since September 2022, I have been actively involved in the development and implementation of a sophisticated Python-based tool aimed at optimizing the transport planning processes within pipeline networks. This tool is designed to effectively manage and minimize the energy consumption associated with the transportation of petroleum products across extensive pipeline systems, such as the Le Havre-Paris network spanning 1,350 km and handling 18 million tons annually.The project employs a Mixed-Integer Nonlinear Programming (MINLP) approach to integrate various critical constraints, including maximum flow rates and pressures, transport times, contaminant generation, pipeline condition assessments, nonlinear pressure drop considerations, product origins, and ongoing maintenance requirements. This comprehensive approach enables us to gain a holistic view of the entire Le Havre-Paris network, facilitating data-driven decision-making to optimize operational efficiency and minimize environmental impact.Key Highlights-Model Development: Design, develop, and validate mathematical models to simulate physical systems, processes, or operations-Validation: Conduct rigorous validation of models to ensure they accurately represent real-world systems and processes-Verification: Verify simulation results through comparison with experimental data, analytical solutions, or other established methods to ensure accuracy and reliability-Data Analysis: Analyze validation and verification data to provide actionable insights and recommendations for improving model accuracy and system performance-Documentation: Prepare comprehensive reports, technical documents, and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders-Continuous Improvement: Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in simulation, modelling, validation, and verification technologies and apply new techniques to enhance current methodologies.
