ABOUT W. DAVID WAKEFIELD
As an experienced highly effective academic leader with a vision and action plan for supporting diversity and inclusion, I lead a burgeoning undergraduate program at one of the largest and most diverse urban public universities.I have extensive experience in successfully mentoring (both faculty and students) in pre-K through higher education settings. I am highly skilled in curriculum development and educational assessment in higher education settings. I have developed and fine-tuned over 20 undergraduate courses and developed an innovative and nationally recognized interdisciplinary Bachelor\'s degree program in Child and Adolescent Development at CSU Northridge. This program is one of the largest degree programs on the Cal State Northridge campus with one of the highest graduation and retention rates for first-generation college students. The degree program features students developing skills and competencies that lead to actualization of a career in child development and its related fields upon graduation.My research interests include understanding the ways children and teens think about their ethnic and cultural group membership and how this impacts their academic engagement, their personal & professional goals, and their attitudes towards people from ethnic & cultural groups other than their own. My general research and teaching interests center around the personal and social development of children in culturally diverse contexts and particularly during adolescence.
